Many people are now using silk style personalized flower petals like these at their wedding.
Some of the things most remembered at a wedding are the closing momements when the bride and groom exit the church or reception hall under a flowering shower of flower petals. Our designs are sure to add an elegant touch to this memory.

Using Personalized Flower Petals

The evolution of using a personalized silk flower petal came about from several factors. First, it used to be traditional to thrown rice at a wedding until 1988 when columnist Ann Landers published a story of birds exploding after eating the dried rice. In addition, some churches and reception halls banned the tossing of dry rice due to the rice being slippery and a liability risk. Many brides wished to have flower petals thrown instead, wanted to have the flower petals match the decorations of the event, and the colors of the bridesmaid dresses. Since florists cannot always obtain the colors the brides wanted, silk flowers have become popular. These silk petals have the extra advantage of having a long shelf life (they can be easily ordered in advance), they can be spread out as decorations without fear of them turning brown, and they can be personalized, plus they are available in an exceptional array of colors.

The Tradition of Throwing Wedding Petals

It is interesting that many cultures throughout history have had some sort of "throwing" ceremony as part of a wedding event. Historians have noted these actions as being based a symbolic gesture of luck to enhance the fertility of the newly wedded couple. Different cultures have tossed different items at the newly wedded couple. Pagan rituals involved the throwing of seeds and grains depending on what was available locally.

Wedding Ceremony Flower Petals

During medieval times in England, a tradition evolved where a bride would follow a flower girl on her way to the church. The flower girl would scatter fresh flower petals, often rose petals, to represent the happiness of the day. Over the ages, the form of transportation changed from a walk to arriving at the church via coach, or automobile, necessitating this tradition transform from scattering petals outside the church to scattering the petals down the aisle.
